Brutus

My heart is thirsty for that noble pledge.
Fill, Lucius, till the wine o'erswell the cup.
I cannot drink too much of Brutus' love.
Cassius, Act 4, Scene 2, Shakespeare's Julius Caesar

Blending Barossa Valley Shiraz and Durif makes Brutus a triumph of a wine – one of our genuine flagship brands. The intense, weighty fruit ‘sweetness’ of Shiraz on the mid-palate blends beautifully with the Durif which explodes much more on the far back palate. What a combination and what a wine!

Notes on the Brutus Barossa Valley Shiraz Durif

In founding Glug an aim to was bring together many threads about the wine business. As producers we set out not only to make wines from the best-known varieties. We wanted to become familiar with many specialist varieties. We worked with Mataro and Grenache, blending them with the staples of Shirz and Cabernet while also testing the potential of other often obscure varieties which likely had huge, hidden potential. In 2007 the winemaker began trialling blends of Shiraz and Durif. The first Brutus appeared with the triumphant 2008 vintage which was released in May, 2011.

As we learnt more about the varietal combination of Shiraz and Durif, the range of wines was extended to include cheaper products such as The Smithy and Pressman which appear from time to time.
